LAST WORDS (2015)
Last Words was the first time I was introduced to production design, and since then I haven't looked back.
On this production, I was finding my feet in the role but am still pleased with what I produced.
The story is set in a future where society can no longer afford the older generation. This means that those over 50 are required to die. Last Word Attendants are there to help people through this difficult time and make death as comfortable as they can.
We had an amazing church location for this film, so to enhance the set I did some research into funeral decorations. From this, I created bouquets of lilies and roses and used red ribbon (symbolising death) and gold ribbon (to match the church's interior).
I then created a logo for the Last Word Attendant, which would hang on the pulpit and be on a handkerchief in his suit pocket.
I found, through research, that both yew trees and snakes were symbols of death, and by combining the two, our logo was created.
Last Words was nominated for Best Drama at the 2016 SE10 Festival.
